New Sources of Savings Needed to Fuel Organisations through Tough Times
Dublin, Ireland March 4, 2009
Economic uncertainties have challenged organisations to find new sources of savings to position businesses not only for survival, but also for agility to move quickly as opportunities re-emerge.
Testing represents untapped potential for cost reduction and business improvement. Leading analysts estimate that testing takes up 25-50% of every project. With funding going only to the top priorities and those projects focusing on transforming business processes, making testing more efficient serves both the top and bottom lines of an organisation.
An added challenge is that business processes today are usually complex integrated systems involving various types of enabling SOA infrastructure technologies. So testing must validate the process and the infrastructure to assure functional and performance standards. Typical environments include more than one messaging technology. Organisations also have a greater number of connections with third party systems, whether these are suppliers, industry members or applications being hosted outside the environment.
While testing automation has been applied to application development and GUI’s, testing of total SOA environments and integration is still largely a manual effort. That’s changing as companies work with testing technology innovator, Green Hat, to discover just how significant automated testing across the SOA lifecycle can be.
“It’s no longer a question of if automated testing is available for integration and SOA. It’s how,” said Peter Cole, President and CTO of Green Hat. “Organisations need to remove very specific barriers to ensure that fast-changing processes get to market fast and perform as expected. Time is money, and so is labour. We make testing simple with automation at every stage of the lifecycle so project teams can keep pace with shorter times between changes and improve coverage.”
Green Hat, a sponsor of the 2009 Software & Systems Quality Conference in Ireland, joins the Irish software community to reveal breakthrough technology in several new products and solutions. GH Tester 5.0 provides a new level of visibility into these complex systems, from the architecture stage through reports of testing results, including the first ever coverage reports for integrated systems.
Green Hat has expanded the product suite to delineate testing functionality specific to vendor brands of business process management (BPM) and Governance. Also now available is a separate Virtualized Integration Environment (GH VIE) for high availability testing and to substitute for costly copies of applications and outsourced environments. Green Hat pioneered testing stub simulation.
“Once you can access or simulate your complex systems, then you can validate,” continued Cole. “We also know that data management can add tremendous cost and time. GH Tester has extensive data parameterization capabilities, which one customer has used to reduce one testing task from weeks to hours.” Cole is attending SQC to discuss the new products and customer successes.
Green Hat coaches organisations on how to deploy an automated testing framework in specific solutions. These include Testing and Performance Centres of Excellence, infrastructure upgrades and sector-specific message formats in processes such as international payments (SWIFT) and healthcare (HL7). The framework assures that automation provides sustainable improvements.
