SOA Governance and Quality
As organisations expand their use of SOA, they are looking to facilitate wider re-use of services. A number of companies offer registry and repository components that solve the directory, storage and policy elements of the puzzle but this is not enough to ensure service re-use. Quality is an essential part of the governance process and in an era of process automation, it seems natural that the governance process itself should include quality benchmarks for services before they are published to a wider audience.
At Green Hat, we've been working with both customers and governance software vendors to define and produce industry leading integration between GH Tester and SOA governance registry and repositories. This thought leadership has resulted in a range of GH Governance Packs that work with GH Tester to provide significant benefits in addition to those provided by governance.
Green Hat's Governance Packs have been recognised by many customers to offer a compelling value proposition that significantly increases the likelihood of service re-use, binds quality into the governance process and makes re-use easier by offering new and useful documentation assets right at the point decisions are being made about which services to use.
Here are just some of the problems that GH Tester solves:
- You want to know the service you are going to use has been tested since it was last modified, but you cannot test it in the same environment that the registry lives in (production).
- You want to test your new orchestration, compound service or mash-up that uses a service not owned by you but the side effects of calling that service make testing impossible. You would like to use a simulation or stub of that service, but is there one, and if so, where is it?
- You want your governance process to automatically include quality processes, but don't know where to start.
The GH Governance Pack includes out of the box quality policies to use with your design time, change time and run time policies. Test results are published via the service directory, augmenting the service definition information available there with valuable documentation aids that make it easier for other teams to re-use the service. The creation of these assets can also be mandated by governance policies using the actions provided by Green Hat.
